Australian Foreign Minister scheduled to visit Myanmar









Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr will be making an official a visit to Myanmar next week, cited ABC News Agency on July 7.


Carr is expected to hold talks with President Thein Sein and opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, as well as businessmen.


Myanmar's moves on current democratic reforms, Australia-Myanmar economic cooperation, international development assistance in education, human rights and the situation in in Rakhine State will be the topic of discussion.


Australia is closely working together with Myanmar on a range of issues such as health, education and trade in order to improve the lives of the Myanmar people. Australian aid to Myanmar is expected to double to more than double to $A100 million per year by 2015.


Australian Foreign Minister Carr's arrival to Myanmar will follow a one day trip to Singapore where he will hold talks with Singapore Foreign Minister K Shanmugam. 


After around two-and-a-half decades of isolation, Myanmar may soon be in a position to receive direct developmental aid funds from Australia.


Robert John "Bob" Carr is an Australian Senator who has served in the government of Australia as Minister for Foreign Affairs since 2012.
