Washington State University music professor Keri McCarthy will bring her passion for music and double-reed instruments to southeast Asia this month when she visits the Gitameit Music Center in Yangon, Burma.
McCarthy, associate professor of oboe and music history, will spend seven days in Burma from July 24-30 working with bassoon colleague Michael Garza of Texas to introduce oboes and bassoons to Burmese musicians. McCarthy said the double-reed instruments are virtually nonexistent in Burma and other southeast Asian countries.
