Myanmar authorities are planning to invite local and foreign companies to construct a second commercial hub in Yangon, according to Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC).

The Min Dhama project in Mayangon Township will include hotels, shopping malls, housing apartments as well as commercial buildings including a cinema and a technology centre.

"The YCDC has planned to build the second commercial hub on over 400 acres and currently they will implement the project on a 50 acre plot within five years," said Yangon's Mayor, Hla Myint.

Yangon's traditional downtown area, where most of the city's commerce is based, is now facing heavy traffic congestion and overcrowding. The Min Dhama project will provide a second commercial centre for Myanmar's largest city.

The Min Dhama project land is currently being used as a flower exhibition ground. However, the YCDC has requested that the exhibition be moved to Yamonna exhibition ground, located in Thakayta Township.
