BRIEF: Tulsa-area churches hold vacation Bible school for Burmese refugee children

Aug 03, 2013 (Menafn - Tulsa World - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --Eight Tulsa-area Lutheran Church Missouri Synod congregations held a vacation Bible school this week for Burmese refugee children.

The Bible school took place at Riverchase Apartments, which houses many refugees from Myanmar, formerly known as Burma.

About 3,000 refugees live in the Tulsa area, according to census figures.

Many came to the U.S. because of political turmoil in their home country.

Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2550 E. 71st St., is planning several follow-up activities, including a back-to-school day on Thursday, which will include the distribution of schools supplies, and a health fair with health and dental screenings on Sept. 7.
