Myanmar's four new airlines are now preparing to launch their services in the country, according to Department of Civil Aviation (DCA). They are namely Yadanabon, Saga, Apex and FMI.

Yadanabon and Saga will base their companies in Mandalay and the rest will base in Nay Pyi Taw, the official capital of Myanmar.

They are all said to be owned by Myanmar nationals and FMI is already operating its Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw flight services with aircraft leased from Myanma Airways as it still doesn't have its own aircraft currently.

"The four new airlines have submitted their applications for permission to do the business at the department," said an official from DCA.

The companies chose Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw to base as the authorities have restricted the number of airlines to base in Yangon International Airport (YIA) which is the main gateway to the country.

"Most of the airlines like to bebase in Yangon. But it's already full with aircraft from several airlines. Yangon International Airport has only a few space remained to provide enough room for new airlines. It's so busy especially at morning and evening departure times," said Win Ko, the general manager for YIA.

There are seven local airlines already operating in the country such as Air Bagan, Golden Myanmar Airlines, Myanma Airways, Yangon Airways, Asian Wings, Air KBZ, and Air Mandalay.
