Stone Town - week beginning August 15

BURMA STAR SERVICE: On Sunday evening, August 18, the Burma Star Memorial Service will be held in Stonefield Park at 6pm. Local dignitaries, military personnel, members of the Royal British Legion and the Royal Air Force Association, accompanied by their Standards, along with other veterans, will be attending.  Members of the general public are welcome. The service is being organised by the Women's Section of the Royal British Legion, and light refreshments will be served afterwards in the marquee. This has been made possible through the help of some Stone Town councillors and funding from the Town Council. For further information contact 760492 or 01785 812572.


ASTON CHURCH CONCERT: On Saturday in St Saviour's Church, Aston, at 7.30pm there will be a concert by The Crooked Bawbees. They are a band of Northumbrian pipes fiddles and piano. Tickets are £10 including wine and canapés. Contact Chris, 01785 813475. Any profits will go towards the refurbishment of the church.


U3A STROLLERS: The meeting point is at Walton Community Centre leaving there at 0930 and the next stroll is on Wednesday August 21. The area is Doxey Marshes, 2 or 3 miles classed as easy. If you are sharing a lift please remember to offer a contribution towards the cost of fuel. It is each individual's responsibility to ensure they are fit and able to undertake the scheduled walk, and are appropriately dressed.  Contact Mary, 01785 813722.


WALTON COMMUNITY CENTRE: Walton friendship club meets on a Monday from 2pm until 3.30pm except for the second Monday in the month. Join in for a game of bingo and a chat. There is also a sales table and raffle. The cost is £1 a session including refreshments.


ROYAL AIR FORCES ASSOCIATION:   Today and tomorrow the Stone and District Branch will be holding its annual 'Wings' appeal collection at Morrison's.  Regular monthly meetings are now held at The Pheasant, Old Road, on the second Monday of each month starting at 8 pm.  The next meeting will be on September 9.  Contact 01889 505094.


COMMUNITY CAFÉ: at Walton Community Centre on Monday and Wednesday morning from 10.30am until 1pm, serving tea, coffee and toast, each item is 30p. Pop in when you are passing by.


STONE LIBRARY: The Creepy House Summer Reading challenge is still current.
