Imphal, September 07, 2013:
Whereas the committee set up at the behest of the State Government to make a field study of the imminent loss of Manipur's territory on account of border fencing in Manipur sector of Indo-Myanmar border is expected to submit a report on September 9, a border liaison meeting of India and Myanmar has been scheduled on September 30. The committee headed by Principal Secretary (Home) Dr J Suresh Babu is expected to submit its field study report to the State Government on Monday, informed a source.
The committee earlier made a field assessment of the border fencing work as well as the site in Hollenphai where Myanmar army attempted to set up a base camp.
In the wake of Myanmar army's attempt to set up a base camp at Hollenphai, the SDPO Moreh and Immigration Officer sent a formal protest note to the Tamu DC.
The protest note also suggested for a border liaison meeting at the earliest possible time.
Subsequently, the Government of India has fixed September 30 for the border liaison meeting.
Indian delegates who would be attending the border liaison meeting would put forward a proposal for constitution of a joint working group, conveyed the source.
Even as the State Government has chosen Hollenphai for development of a new township, Myanmar army is constructing a camp just across the border in their territory.
