Government plans to build modular houses in Rakhine









Rakhine State will have its share of earthquake-resistance houses and will soon construct them, according to Ministry of Social Warfare, Relief and Resettlement.


Although the modular houses have been originally planned to construct in Mandalay and Sagain region which is located in earthquake zones, later the government also decided to include Rakhine State. The modular houses are formed with alloy and can resist up to 7 Richter scale.


The ministry will give training to construct them and the construction will start in the end of this month. The government planned 150 modular houses in Mandalay region and Rakhine State respectively, 48 of them in Sagaing region.


The training period will be lasted for 10 days, according to an official from Ministry of Social Warfare, Relief and Resettlement.
Director Than Htut Swe from Ministry of Social Warfare, Relief and Resettlement said, "We will give training in Mandalay region. After the training is completed, we will start the construction at the places we planned for."


Sagaing earthquake which struck in 1956 has been recorded between 8 and 9 Richter scale near the epicentre. It made about 50 people dead and became the major fault for Myanmar.


The fault struck up to 10 Richter scale and Sagaing and Mandalay regions located in Sagaing Fault, according to analysts.


The last occurrence of earthquake in Sagaing region happened in November, last year and registered 6.8 Richter scale. The government indicated that half of dozen are dead and had 36 injuries.
