The Ministry of Education is looking to upgrade certain universities with potential to internationally accepted standard so that the institution would be at part with the rest of top Asian universities.
"We are going to focus on the universities with the best prospect and do our best to be in the Asian universities rating in the shortest possible time. The rest of the universities will have to use the allocated budget widely and do the same," said Dr. Mya Aye, the minister of education, at the opening speech at the University Education Council Meeting.
There are a total of 168 universities and colleges in Myanmar. Yangon University, Yangon Economic University and Mandalay University have educational cooperation and linkages with foreign universities. The three institutions are also part of the Asean universities network
