MYANMMAR
When the Merdeka Tournament starts this Saturday, surely all eyes will be on Malaysia U23 and Singapore U23 sides, but fans and media would be wrong if they were to totally forget about the other two teams who have just as many reasons to win the competition, and prepare for the SEA Games later this year.
For Thailand Under-23, all the hype about a new crop of young and talented players will be tested for the first time in the Merdeka Tournament. The Thailand FA have been assembling a group of talented footballers in the nation for a while now and with the likes of Dangda, Kraisorn, Songkrasirn and Wongsa at their disposal, Thailand can definitely bring some surprises to this game, with potential match-winners coming from all corners of their team which should see them outclass the Myanmar Under-23 team.
For the Myanmar side, they have a lot to prove not just in this match, but also in the entire tournament. A win against the Thailand U23's would surely be a huge boost, and for a team that has spent months training for this tournament, a win in their first outing is the result they will seek.
In virtue of their entry into the SEA Games this year, Myanmar will want to win the tournament and show their true strength early on, in order to gain momentum for when they welcome all teams from Southeast Asia, including Thailand. There is a lot of pressure in their first game and a tight battle is expected from the get-go.
