No parking zones will be imposed on many roads to solve increasing traffic jams in Yangon, according to Myint Swe, Yangon's regional chief minister.

"We are thinking of limiting car parking on roads. As we are continuing to extend roads, but the cars will continue to park on the extended roads. The majority of the problems we are facing now are traffic jam," said the chief minister.

The Yangon Regional Government is thinking of imposing a restriction on car parking and they have a plan to submit it to the parliament. Although the construction of over passes and new roads are underway to ease congestion in Myanmar's commercial capital, traffic seems to be getting worse.

The majority of the traffic jam takes place in Hledan, Shwegon Taing and Bayint Naung where overpasses are being built. Traffic jam occur daily on most roads in Yangon.

Experts think that traffic jams occur because of too many vehicles, lack of road discipline by drivers, shortages in traffic police as well as weaknesses in the roads and public transportation system.
