Myanmar Ministry of Electric Power signed a deal with Green Earth of Thailand for solar energy production in Minbu in upper Myanmar, according to a report by the government-run Myanma Alinn.
The solar power plant with the capacity of 50 Megawatt could be completed by 2015 and come into operation a year later, according to report.
ACO company is also initiating a similar solar power plant project in Nabu-ai Industrial Zone in Myingyan District.
The larger project would generate 250 Megawatts of electricity starting from 2015.
Myanmar is a country relying heavily on hydropower from various rivers and creeks, but damming the rivers has been subject of criticisms in a few years.
The energy-hungry country is seeking alternative energy sources to satisfy increasing demand.
