Ragailong village, Dimapur turns 75

Ragailong village, Burma Camp, Dimapur, which came into existence in 1937, celebrated its platinum jubilee Saturday.


The occasion was observed with minister, planning and coordination, evaluation, geology and mining T.R Zeliang as chief guest and parliamentary secretary IT C, technical education, science and technology and taxation Tovihoto Ayemi as guest of honour.


Pointing out that the 75 years of Ragailong's existence was possible due to few people who had sacrificed time and physical efforts, T.R Zeliang said the Zeliangrong people have to retrospect and find out an approach to march forward with the rest of other tribes.


Speaking in Nagamese, the minister also said civilization dawned on Naga society 150 years back when Christianity came to the state but lamented the fact that Zeliangrong people scattered in Nagaland, Manipur and Assam were still "backward." Stating that civilization required education and economic growth for self sufficiency, Zeliang urged the gathering to provide quality education to their children and follow the Christian principle for advancement of a community or a society.


He also unveiled the platinum jubilee monolith along with Tovihoto Ayemi. He later donated Rs. 1 lakh towards the celebration.


Also speaking on the occasion, Tovihoto said the pioneers and the leaders of the village in early days must have definitely faced untold obstacles and uncertainty to establish the village.


"Their true grit, vision and sacrifices have made it possible for you to call it home," he said. He also donated Rs.50,000 towards the celebration.


Earlier, the programme started with an invocation prayer by pastor Gangmuna Gonmei, RBF-UNB, welcome address by convenor, K. Jelianga, jubilee melody by BYE, RBCBC, Dimapur, cultural dances were presented by women folk and the youth, while vote of thanks was proposed by Akhu Gangmei, GB. The programme was moderated by Dijinlung Longmei and Malaliu Gonmei.
