Officials from ALD and RNDP hold discussions in Yangon on October 5.
Representatives from two main ethnic Rakhine parties have met in Yangon between October 5 to 6 to finalise discussions to merge under a new party.
The Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) and the Rakhine Nationalities Development Party (RNDP) will join forces under the new Rakhine National Party that will be registered officially in the third week of October.
"We decided today on everything required for the official registration. A week or so later, we will go to Nay Pyi Taw for it," said RNDP Chairman Aye Thar Aung.
The two parties reached a preliminary agreement for the merger in June and 30 central executives from both parties attended the meeting to make the final decision. For the official registration, ALD Chairman Aye Thar Aung was made the first party leader and RNDP's Chairman Dr. Aye Maung was made second leader.
The two parties will go on with their work according to their own policies until the Rakhine National Party is fully registered. The leaders from both parties said there were no big difficulties around the merger.
