Asian budget airline Air Asia is planning to launch its first
Bangkok-Nay Pyi Taw itinerary in last week of November, reported the
Voice, citing an official of Civil Aviation Directorate.
It was the first scheduled flight of the airline to the administrative
seat of Myanmar.
The Air Asia flight for the Nay Pyi Taw route could board about 180 passengers.
"It is for SEA Games. And it would continue its flight even SEA
Games," the unnamed official told the Voice.
Nay Pyi Taw will host Myanmar's first-ever SEA Games in December and
the ASEAN Summit in 2014.
Bangkok Airways is the only international airliner currently plying
between Nay Pyi Taw and Bangkok and Singapore Airlines has made
proposal to fly the charter flight in SEA Games period.
Local airlines Asian Wings Airways, Myanma Airways, FMI Air Charter,
Golden Myanmar Airways, Air KBZ, Yangon Airways, Air Bagan and Air
Mandalay will fly routes linking major cities in Myanmar during the
SEA Games period, according to the report.
