Japanese government pledged aids of USD 51 million for upgrading
functions of the Central Bank of Myanmar, Japanese Embassy in Myanmar
has announced.
The Japanese ambassador and deputy minister for national planning and
economic development Dr Khin San Yi signed agreement on October 25 for
aids to the central bank, according to the local newspaper Voice.
The central bank upgrading project would facilitate the economic
reforms of the Southeast Asian country and the integration into ASEAN
Economic Community in 2015, according to the press release by the
Japanese embassy.
The press release highlighted the significant role of the central bank
in monetary reform process of Myanmar.
The central bank has become an independent body, separated from the
Ministry of Finance and Revenue, with the enactment of the new central
bank law.
The central bank is now operated under the board of director nominated
by the president and approved by the parliament.
