MYANMAR BEACHES GET MAJOR FACELIFT

Myanmar government is upgrading beaches in Myanmar to enable them
attract more tourists, providing quality services, according to the
government-run Myanma Alinn report.

Ngapali beach in riot-stricken western corner of the country holds the
potential to attract more tourists than Thailand's famous Phukhet
beach, said general secretary of Myanmar Tourism Entrepreneurs
Association Naung Naung Han.

"There have been a lot of land preparation and acquisitions.

We need construction works for the time being. We will have to draft the
long-term plan," he added.

"To make a huge tourism zone into reality, we need to wait for more
3-5 years. More new hotels are emerging now," Naung Naung Hal said.

Despite sectarian violence over the past two years, the Ngapali beach
in Thandwe Township in Rakhine State is attracting more tourists as
ever.

Ngwehsaung beach in delta Ayeyawady Region is one of the venues of
Myanmar's first-ever SEA Games scheduled to be held in coming
December.
