IMPHAL, Nov 10 – A Myanmar delegation led by Chief Ministers of Mandalay Region Ye Myint and Chief Minister of Sagaign region Tha Aye will be visiting Manipur and Assam in November end.
The 24-member delegation including high ranking officials of Myanmar Government and businessmen will land here at the Tulihal Airport to attend the 10 day Manipur Sangai Festival on November 21, sources said.
After attending the inaugural function of the Sangai Festival on November 21, the Myanmarese delegates would go to Dibrugarh in Assam the next day to attend the Northeast Investors' Meet organised by the Ministry of DoNER and Indian Chamber of Commerce, from November 22 to 24.
Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi is expected to accompany the Myanmarese delegates to Dibrugarh, the source added. The businessmen and officials are expected to have a series of discussions on the development activities between the two sides of the border during the visit of the Myanmar delegation.
Meanwhile, Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said that the Tulihal Airport in Imphal will start functioning as an International Airport once the setting up of necessary infrastructure is completed.
Gaikhangam also said that the airport will be made operational for wider connectivity with the South Asian countries.
Tulihal Airport in Imphal belongs to the Airports Authority of India and is suitable for 'C' type (A-320/321) of aircraft operation in all weather conditions. Major facilities including night operations, longer runway, apron to park three A-320s and one ATR-72 at a time, terminal building having an area of 6,592 sq m, navigational aid, nineteen check-in-counters, Custom counters, immigration and sufficient space for health services and animal and plant quarantine are being provided at the Airport, according to official sources.
