Myanmar president to visit Philippines in December

Myanmar President U Thein Sein will visit the Philippines on December 4 upon the invitation of President Benigno S. Aquino III.

In a statement issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs, it said that this is Thein Sein's first state visit to the Philippines since he assumed office in 2011.

The state visit will focus on discussions on issues of mutual concern, trade and investment, agriculture, energy, cultural exchanges and information cooperation, and Myanmar's historic chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2014.

Aquino and Thein Sein had their first bilateral meeting on June 7, 2013 during the World Economic Forum (WEF) on East Asia which Myanmar hosted.

The two countries had established their diplomatic relations in 1956.

Myanmar has sent seven tons of relief goods and $100,000 to "Yolanda" victims.
