MYANMAR FINALIZING UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE BILL

Myanmar Ministry of Health is putting finishing touches to Universal
Healthcare Bill by January, 2014, according to a local newspaper the
Voice which cited an official source.

Director of Health Planning Department under the Ministry of Health Dr
San San Aye said the Universal Health Bill would make free healthcare
to Myanmar citizens.

The ministry has enjoyed the budget boost over the past two years of
the civilian government.

The bill embodies the plan to reduce healthcare costs for the citizens
and keep the costs within reach of every citizen.

According to standards by World Health Organization, the cost for
health could be around 30-40 percent of individual income.

The Ministry of Health has said that the people in Myanmar had to use
80 percent of their incomes for healthcare in 2011.

World Bank and World Health Organization provided aids to the Ministry
of Health for drafting the Universal Healthcare Bill.
