World leading digital solutions provider Oberthur Technologies announced Thursday its joint venture with Myanmar Mobile Money launched the Mobile Money services in Myanmar, according to BusinessWire.
The first-ever mobile money service in both English and Burmese is based on the Oberthur Technologies' MoreMagic m:Wallet platform.
It features inter-personal transfer, top-up, salary disbursements and merchant payments.
The services have started in major cities of Myanmar since the end of 2013 and will be extended to other parts of the nation gradually.
It has expected to have more than 6000 agents by the end of 2014 with significant growth rate over five years.
It has targeted the coverage of 80% of the entire population of the country.
Myanmar's economy is still dominated by cash and only a few card services have just started.
