Mission of Burma, Elliott Brood lead second wave of Sled Island 2014 acts

Perhaps wave is not the correct term. It's bigger than that. But knowing how sensitive this part of the world is to the "f"-word — the festival in particular and for very good reason — we'll leave it at that.

Sled Island has announced its second, really big wave of artists that will be performing at this year's event which will take place June 18-22 at more than 30 venues around Calgary.

Some of the highlights of the newly released cast of 50-plus include: Influential veteran American post-punk act Mission of Burma; Canadian roots-rockers Elliott Brood; Portland alt-folk act Blitzen Trapper; avant-garde electro artist Julianna Barwick; San Fran rock quartet The Fresh Onlys; Vancouver punk crew White Lung; Mississippi garage rockers Bass Drum of Death; Texas metal men Power Trip; West Coasters Hunx and His Punx; and Jerusalem In My Heart, who will return to town to complete their "f"-word interrupted residency at the National Music Centre.

The new, large list of artists join previously announced headliners that includes Spiritualized, Neko Case, Bob Mould, St. Vincent, Rocket From the Crypt, and guest curator Kathleen Hanna's band The Julie Ruin.

Festival passes for this year are already available from sledisland.com ranging from: $199 Discovery Pass, which includes access to all Sled Island events (250-plus bands, art, film, comedy), subject to capacity; $349 Discovery Plus Pass, that has all the benefits of the Discovery Pass with priority access to all events, entry into the artist lounge, a delegate bag and more; and All-Ages Passes, which are $50, and allow access to each of the all-ages venues including Olympic Plaza. A limited number of individual tickets for select shows are already on sale, with more being made available April 11th via sledisland.com and Ticketfly.
