Teen parents remanded over death of 2-month old baby







IPOH: A young couple have been remanded for four days for suspected child abuse.



It is learnt that the father, a Myanmar national is only 16 while his wife is an 18-year old housewife.



District police chief Assistant Commissioner Sum Chang Keong said the parents were picked up in Ipoh on Sunday.



"The father works at a fish pond while the mother is a housewife," he said, adding that the case had been classified as child abuse and would be investigated under Section 31 (1) of the Child Act 2001.



It was reported that a post-mortem conducted on the two–month old baby girl on Sunday discovered the cause of death was head injury.



The teenaged father had admitted his daughter for treatment at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun on Saturday at 4pm but she died while being treated.
