Myanmar's Department of Human Settlements and Housing Development will conduct an urban study to devise a systematic town planning for the development of social economy in the towns and cities across the country, according to officials.
Workshops on the current urban situation recently have been held in Nay Pyi Taw and Taunggyi, the capital of Shan State organized, while a similar kind of workshop is to be launched in Yangon on December 6-7.
Urban experts from abroad also joined the workshops to take part in the discussions and the Yangon workshop will discuss maintenance of ancient buildings in the city as a main theme, sources said.
"Scholars from Germany's University of Cologne and Southeast Asian countries joined the workshops in progress in Nay Pyi Taw and Taung Gyi. Maintenance of ancient buildings will be discussed at the Yangon workshop," said an official from the department.
"The current town planning in most of the cities in the country is not orderly. These days we organized these discussions to achieve a good system concerning the town planning," a participant architect said.
It was also learned that the government will craft urban development projects for the whole country soon.
