Suu Kyi urges not to discriminate against HIV patients

Aung San Suu Kyi urged everyone to participate in eliminating the discrimination against HIV patients in her formal message for the celebration of World AIDS Day held on December 1 at the headquarters of her National League for Democracy Party.

She said in her message that conceptual thinking about disease is totally different from discriminating the patients. The former can result in advantages. Then discriminating against someone affects not only to the victims, but also the human dignity of the doer.

People living with HIV/ AIDS are not the outcasts of the civilized community. Health education prevents the epidemic of the disease. Transparency is a necessity for health education, she said.

She was appointed as the UNAIDS ambassador on November 20, 2012 and she has been taking action to fight the discrimination against the HIV/ AIDS patients.
