Undergoing construction of Hledan overpass at Yangon
The construction of an overpass at Hledan Junction, a most heavily congested area in Yangon, will be completed by April next year, a consultant engineer of project contractor Shwe Taung Company said.
Preliminary engineering works were completed on February 12 this year, after a feasibility study was conducted to build the overpass at Hledan Junction in Kamayut Township in December last year.
"When we made a feasibility study on the traffic flows, we realised that Hledan Junction is in desperate need of an overpass. Pile foundations started in June and we had only 10 months to finish the construction as scheduled," company consultant engineer Khin Maung Oo said during a press briefing on the overpass construction on December 1.
The overpass construction is expected to cost 14 billion kyats (US$16.42 million), which is untaken by Shwe Taung Co. The Yangon City Development Committee will reimburse after project is completed.
The company has borrowed 3 billion kyats from the Kanbawza Bank and another 3 billion from the Industrial Bank to build the flyover, which has so far been completed by 65 per cent, it was learnt.
