Myanmar paddy farmers demand aid for damaged crops

Myanmar Peasants' Association demanded an emergency assistance for damaged paddy crops during a meeting on December 1.


According to the association, farmers in Ayeyawady, Yangon and Taninthayi Regions are now facing problem as untimely rain damaged their paddy crops and harvested paddy in late November.


"Roughly, there were five baskets of damaged paddy in one acre of paddy field," a peasant from Longlone Township.


Myanmar Rice Industry Federation and Myanmar Agribusiness Public Corporation will immediately provide 20 winnowing machines, two paddy dryers and 101 submersible pumps to these peasants, an official who requested anonymity said.
