International aids to IDPs misused in Myanmar: Vice-President

International aids to internally displaced people (IDP) is being misused in the country, said Dr. Sai Mauk Kham, the vice-president.
The move came from the meeting of the anti-corruption committee that was held in Nay Pyi Taw on July 1.
The Vice-President did not identify the suspects or any particular sagency or department.
Bribery and corruption are common among the government ministries to the point that many feel that it was acceptable. In the new era, the misuse of international aids to the victims affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters is a barrier to the country's development, he said.
Bribery and corruption are usually found in the poorest countries around the world. It can be said that bribes are taken from the poor people. In commercial field, bribery and corruption ensure the impoverishment of innocent merchants, he added.
The Vice-President pointed out that the committee should take systematic measures in carrying out future tasks, seeking the precise cause of bribery and corruption in addition to inspection and actions process in fighting against bribery and corruption.
Laws for fighting against bribery and corruption are being complied in the time of new government, said Khin Aung Myint, the Speaker of Upper House, at the workshop on fight against bribery and corruption and transparency held in Nay Pyi Taw on June 29, adding that the situation of being poor in Myanmar leads to bribery and corruption.
The Action Committee against Corruption chaired by Dr. Sai Mauk Kham was formed with the order of the President on January 9.
Also President Thein Sein said that he would fight against bribery and corruption matters facing government ministries during his taking an oath before taking office in 2011.
According to the corruption report of Transparency International released in 2012, Myanmar is standing one of the worst corruption countries behind Sudan, Afghanistan, North Korea and Somalia.
