Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) plans to create green zones with non high-rise buildings and noiseless areas in Yangon, according to the Heritage Conservation Forum held in third week of June.
The organisers of the forum are YCDC, Yangon Heritage Trust, Myanmar Engineers Association and other respective government departments.
"The main reasons to hold meeting are to create green zones and noiseless areas in Yangon. In the meeting, we discussed about where the high-rise buildings should be located," an official from YCDC said. Downtown areas in Yangon have many high-rise buildings but car parking areas are not enough to cover and blocked the roads most of the time. Some said YCDC needs to consider the permission to construct high-rise buildings in busy areas in downtown.
The YCDC is planned downtown areas to restrict constructing high-rise buildings. YCDC will divide two zones in downtown areas and represent the zones with colours. At present, YCDC restricted to construct the buildings located around one mile area of Shew Dagon Pagoda not higher than sixth floor. The conservation areas will be Inya Myaing, Golden Valley, University Avenue, Consulate housing areas in Dagon Township and Ngwe Kyaryan housing in South Oakkalapa Township.
Kaw Taw Gyi and areas around the Inya Lake in addition to recreation parks in Yangon have been planned to preserve as conservation areas. YCDC will be submitted the plan to the President by Yangon region government.
