Myanmar student unions marked 51st anniversary of deadly bombing of the student union building of the then prestigious Yangon University on 7 July.

Leaders of 88-Generation Students including Min Ko Naing and Ko Ko Gyi joined the remembrance services in various venues organized by the incumbent student unions of universities and institutes.

It marked the bombing of the historic student union building of Yangon University on the same day in 1962 during four months after the military coup by general Ne Win that prolonged for nearly five decades.

The casualties of the bomb attack was unknown and so was the bombers who were believed to be the junta itself.

On that day, students in protest were shot dead by police and army.

On 8 July morning in 1962, there was no student union building or no official status of student unions.

Myanmar's national hero General Aung San started his political career from the student union of Yangon University.
