Myanmar to open more embassy and counsellor offices next year - Deputy Minister

Myanmar is planning to open more embassy and counsellor offices in the next fiscal year according to Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Zin Yaw who was speaking in Parliament on Thursday.
Myanmar has recently opened thirty three embassies and three permanent representative offices in cities across the world. In China, Myanmar opened three counsellor offices and another in India.
Consuls for business affairs have been appointed in Bangkok, Beijing, Brussels, New Delhi, Seoul, Singapore, Tokyo, Washington and Hong Kong among thirty three embassies between May and June 2013. More counsellor offices will be opened in Greece, the Netherlands, Lebanon, South Korea, Australia, Turkey, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Japan, Brazil and Pakistan.
"Honourable counsellors and chief consuls are directly contacted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to promote Myanmar tourism and inform on the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Law issued by Myanmar in addition to increase trading and business opportunities," the deputy minister said.
Moreover Myanmar government is negotiating with Thailand and Australia to continue to open counsellor offices next year, he added.
The deputy minister responded the proposal of Dr. Khin Shwe, Upper House MP for No.9 Constituency in Yangon region. In the proposal, the MP urged the government to open more counsellor offices to increase commercial ties with the international community.
