Thai authorities have arrested a Myanmar national on suspicion of
human trafficking of hundreds of migrant workers from Myanmar to Thai
fishing industry, according to an AP report.
Ko Myo, 42, as identified by the Thai police, was arrested in a raid
in southern Thailand province of Surat Thani and charged with human
trafficking.
He is being held in custody in the hospital as he was injured in the
raid on 1 August, says the report.
Police Maj Gen Chavalit Sawangpuech is quoted as saing, "He is an
agent with a large client base, who has abused his own countrymen on
Thai soil for 10 years."
He also said the man is at the top of the most wanted list in Thailand
as he was the leader of the most notorious human trafficking ring in
Thailand.
He is being interrogated by the police for his alleged involvement in
rape and murder of a compatriot in coastal Throng province in
Thailand.
His three aides were also captured in separate raids and face human
trafficking charges.
