Myanmar Ministry of Information introduced the Broadcasting Law
(draft) drawn up by the ministry in Yangon on Monday.
The legislation would not allowed the cross ownership of publication
and broadcasting firms, requiring any owner of media firms to use the
only platform.
"The provision is aimed at developing pluralism in the media
industry," Tint Swe, director-general of Myanma Radio and Television.
It would be a result of personal clashes in the industry, according to
Zaw Min Aye, Aurora Media which is printing a newspaper and starting a
broadcasting business.
The legislation will form a council to oversee the industry with
deputy ministers from various ministries including Defence Ministry
and Home Ministry.
The ministry has recently seen setbacks from the media industry after
its stubborn push to the approval of the print media law.
It has been approved by the lower house.
