Another protest staged against controversial copper mine

Two days after the violent crackdown on protesters at the Latpadaungtaung copper mine, locals organised another protest on December 2, but this time in Sarlingyi Township in central Myanmar.
Around 500 residents took part in the protest which lasted about an hour at a village named "Tone".
"This protest is for the complete termination of the project and immediate release of the detainees. The ones who were injured during the crackdown also joined the protest," a local said.
MP Than Myint who visited the protest scene said: "I am aware of the Latpadaungtaung project in general. I am also aware of the current situation concerning the project. I did not submit a proposal against the project to the parliament as I think the project is being implemented in accordance with the law. It's eco-friendly. I wouldn't like to comment anything concerning the crackdown. I can't accuse anyone for being attacked with a stick as I was not a witness to it. I think the authority will take action in accordance with the law concerning the issue. Today's protest is also in accordance with the law,". Than Myint is also a member of the investigation committee on the crackdown.
