Two local private companies will be joining the Road Transport Administration Department (RTAD) in operating Yangon's public transport system.
The companies, San Yaung Ni and Forever Green Right, will be investing 6 billion kyats (US$7 million) and 7 billion kyats ($8.2 million) respectively. RTAD has yet to disclose its share of investment in the project.
"Our project will cover taxis and highway buses, and the proposal for the plan has been submitted to the Myanmar Investment Commission," said Tin win Aung, the department director.
RTAD is one of the departments of Ministry of Rail Transportation. It is responsible for ensuring road safety through vehicle inspection and registration; issuance of driving licence; implementation of traffic regulations; and tax and revenue collection.
