26 die in Myanmar's Traditional New Year Festival

Myanmar saw about 200 accidents and criminal activities nationwide in its New Year Thingyan Festival (Water Festival) this year, the Myanmar Police Force (MPF) reported.
Twenty-six people died and 185 others were injured in the 198 cases across the nation, police said.
The cases are mostly related to car accidents while others include drowning, excessive drinking, quarreling, pick pocketing, theft, arson attacks, sexual molestation, defiance of law and order and possessing weapons.
During the four-day festival from 13 to 16 April, the first two days saw only a few cases but the cases multiplied on the last two days.
According to the news release of the MPF, 11 out of the 26 deaths were caused by car accidents.
However, this year saw fewer cases than the previous year, the police force reported.
