President Thein Sein will attend the 22nd ASEAN Summit to be held in Brunei, says an official from the President's Office.
Director Zaw Htay, however, released no details about the date the president will go to Brunei.
The ASEAN Summit is to be held in Bandar Seri Begawan on 24th and 25th this month.
The summit is reportedly to focus on the South China Sea dispute between ASEAN member countries and China and regional security. It is also likely to discuss issues such as peace and mutual interest in regional economy as well as international issues.
The meeting will be attended by heads of state/government from Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. Among them, the first six countries are major ASEAN members.
Myanmar joined ASEAN on July 23, 1997. It is due to host the SEA Games in December this year.
Moreover, Myanmar is taking preparatory measures to host a series of ASEAN meetings next year as it has accepted to take ASEAN chairmanship in 2014.
