Thein Sein's administration still lacks implementing reforms, says Suu Kyi









Opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi during her visit to Japan criticized Thein Sein's administration for still lacking the efficient implementation of reform process, adding that the government needs to sort out priorities in reform process.


The new government has been weak in the habit of making compromise by a process of negotiation and such habit should be cultivated in an effort to implement reform process, the chairperson of the National League for Democracy continued.


Every assistance provided to Myanmar needs to reach the places actually necessary for the people. For that reason, Japanese government is required not only to discuss with Myanmar government but also with the legislative body and our opposition party, the Nobel lauderate said.


Rule of law needs to be established in order to end the conflicts the country facing, she added.


I am not a person of supernatural powers in the elimination of the conflicts. If I were that person, I would do everything. Therefore, we will have to take time to in addressing different issues, the NLD chairperson said.


Regarding to the question of "whether Bengalis are citizens or not", Suu Kyi said that it much depended on the provisions of the existing citizenship law.


Suu Kyi paid a visit to Japan from April 12 to 19 so as to seek support from Japan to Myanmar's reform process.


During her visit to Japan, she held disucssions with Japanese Premier Shinso Abe and Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and asked for assistance to improve political and social matters.


Suu Kyi studied at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University in 1985 to 1986 and her current visit is the first time in 27 years.
