Seven suspects on trial for killing a Buddhist monk

Meikhtila authorities has begun legal process to prosecute seven suspects for the killing a Buddhist monk in the town last month.
The first-round trial went on April 22, officials said.
Four other suspects are still at large, according to the officials.
Initial interrogation found out that eleven suspects namely Myo Tun Tun (40), Pho Cho (33), Myo Nyunt Oo (41), Myo Win (46), Zaw Htet Naing (31), Myat Ko Ko (20), Nyi Nyi Naing (18), Myo Win (30), Let Kyaw Naing (31), Ko Ko Win (26), and Sithu (26) took part in the killing of U Thawbita (45) on March 20 in Meikhtila. The monk was from Wandwin township on his way to Meikhtila market on that day to face his death unfortunately.
Although seven others were arrested earlier, the fugitives namely Myo Win (30), Let Kyaw Naing (31), Ko Ko Win (26), and Sithu (26) are still at large, officials say.
Religious riots that started off with a dispute at a gold shop in central Myanmar and spread to other parts of the country have claimed the lives of 43 people and injured 86, the Home Affairs Ministry reported.
A total of 163 violence cases had occurred during March 20 to 29 across the country, said the report, which Ye Htut, President's spokesperson and the Information Ministry's deputy minister.
Three days of rioting in Meikhtila resulted in the destruction of 1,594 houses, most from arson attacks, according to officials.
