Opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi finished her trip to Japan and arrived back in Myanmar at 7 pm yesterday.

It is the first time she has visited Japan since 1985 when she was a visiting researcher at the Kyoto University. She gave an address at the Ryukoku University on April 15 and the University of Tokyo on April 17 respectively.

The Nobel Laureate met the Speaker of Japan's House of Councilors and Minister of Foreign Affairs on April 16 and the Speaker of House of Representatives and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on April 18.

Suu Kyi attended a gathering in Tokyo of Myanmar citizens residing in Japan on April 13 and 15 and visited a small scale hydropower plant on April 14.

After her release from house arrest in November 2010, the National League for Democracy leader made her first overseas trip in 24 years to Thailand in May last year where she met Myanmar workers and refugees before delivering her speech at the World Economic Forum there.

Later in June, she visited Norway to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, which she won in 1991, and proceeded to a number of European countries including the United Kingdom. In September, Suu Kyi visited the United States. She also went to India in November.
