Myanmar tourism industry blamed residents and local visitors for messing up Taungthaman Lake over which U Bein bridge is spanning, the Myanmar Times reported.
"Local travelers and residents don't obey the rules," vice chair of Mandalay tour guide association Khin Yu Swe said.
Taungthama Lake is littered with rubbish, especially the plastic bags. Swe insisted that the lake would be much clearer there are no vendors on the bridge.
U Bein bridge in Amarapura close to the second largest city of Myanmar Mandalay has a reputation as the longest teak bridge and attracts tourists with scenic views.
