Ceased-fired Karen groups to do business

Ethnic Karen groups, which reached truce with the government recently planed to do business, according to a senior officer at the Border Guard Forces.
"The armed groups will join together to form a legal business. They decided at a meeting in Htokawko [in Kayin State]. The plans in detail will be mapped out next three or four months," said Brigadier General Saw Chit, who is the No. 3 Station Commander and the General Secretary of Central Advisory and Administration of Border Guard Forces (Kayin).
The armed Karen groups that recently met at Htokawko area in Kawkerait Township include Border Guard Forces (Kayin), Karen National Union, Karen National Liberation Army, Democratic Karen Buddhist Army, Karen Peace Force, Thantaung Group and Phayagon Peace Group.
Some of the armed groups are engaging in businesses such as gold and metal mining, road construction and tourism.
