Malaysian rubber firm Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd is planning to launch a natural rubber processing plant in Myanmar this year, the Malaysian newspaper the Star reported.

The firm stroke a deal with local partner Pho La Min Trading Ltd to explore production possibilities in Myanmar last December.

The company eyes palm oil and sugar cane production in the Southeast Asian country as well.

According to chief executive officer-designate Mohd Emir Mavani Abdullah, the company's long-term focus is palm oil production.

Myanmar has oil palm plantations in Mon State, Kayah State and Taninthayi Region.

FGV is the Malaysia-based global agricultural company with special interests in oil palm, rubber, soybean, canola and sugar products.

It is also the world's third largest oil palm company by plantation acreage.
