TV bosses won't let up on Griff

TV bosses won't let up on Griff

Griff Rhys Jones retraces his father's wartime journey for a new BBC Two show

Griff Rhys Jones has said TV bosses know what they want him to do on the small screen - and they won't let his age get in the way.

The 59-year-old comedian is working on a new ITV series about Wales and is also delving into his father's history in a BBC Two documentary Burma, My Father And The Forgotten Army.

The Three Men In A Boat star said: "I went for a meeting at the BBC recently and they said 'People love to see you throw yourself off mountains and wade through streams'.

"I had to say, 'I'm nearly 60! Do I have to go on doing that?' and they said 'Yes!'."

He added: "I feel very young. It's a shock to look in the mirror. I go to occasions now where I wonder who all these old people are. Then I realise they're all my old friends and most of them are younger than me, so it's a bit terrifying."

Griff said of his TV career: "Everyone's getting tired of me, you go around in waves, but I'd like to do more acting and performing if I can be allowed to do that."

:: Burma, My Father And The Forgotten Army is on BBC Two on Sunday, July 7.
