Myanmar will celebrate the International Day of Democracy, which falls on September 15, at the Parliament Building in Nay Pyi Taw.
Thein Nyunt, a Member of Parliament and chairman of the New National Democracy Party, said that all political parties have been invited to attend the event.
"Parliament has formed a committee to celebrate the International Day of Democracy. We have been invited and we will read a statement about national reconciliation," he said.
Other political parties are also expected to make a statement on the occasion.
"Two of us will attend the celebration and comment on the occasion, said Khin Maung Swe, chairman of National Democratic Force.
Myanmar began celebrating the International Day of Democracy in 2011, when a new government took office after Parliament emerged in accordance with the 2008 constitution.
Some activists have reportedly demanded that August 8 be designated as Myanmar Democracy Day, as a gesture hailing the "8/8/88" democracy movement, which began on the eighth day of the eighth month in 1988.
