China's foreign ministry said on Nov. 8 that it is not aware of plans by Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi to visit the country.
"We have good communication with Aung San Suu Kyi and her political party but we have not received any information about her trip," said ministry spokesman Hong Lei.
A newspaper in Myanmar had reported that the Nobel peace prize-winning human right activists is planning to visit China at the invitation of the China Association for International Friendly Contact. The association is chaired by former foreign minister Li Zhaoxing.
On Nov. 4, Aung San Suu Kyi made an announcement that she had accepted the invitation to visit China. The news organization Mizzima reported that Li forwarded the invitation to Aung San Suu Kyi via Myanmar Councilor Khin San Hlaing.
"China never invited me to visit. I accept the invitation because it is very important to establish friendship with any country," Aung San Suu Kyi said on Nov. 6.
Aung San Suu Kyi has announced her intention to run in her country's presidential election in 2015, and has also made visits to the United States, Australia, Europe, Thailand, India, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia and Singapore.
