GOV’T COMMITTEE, ETHNIC GROUPS EXCHANGE PROPOSED CEASEFIRE ACCORDS

Myanmar government peace committee and ethnic armed groups exchanged
proposed peace agreements at the peace dialogue in Myitkyina of Kachin
State on November 4.

It was attended by the government peace-making working committee vice
chairman Aung Min who is also Minister at President Office and leaders
from 17 ethnic armed groups.

UNSG's Special Envoy to Myanmar Vijay Nambiar and a Chinese delegate
as observers, according to the press release by the government.

"The nationwide ceasefire common principles of ethnic armed groups
(Laiza Agreement) drafted by Nationwide Ceasefire Coordination Team
(NCCT) formed with leaders of ethnic armed groups was discussed and
transferred to the Union Peace-making Working Committee," reads the
press release.

The meeting reaches agreement on continuation of the ceasefire talks,
formulating policy framework and start of the political dialogue.

Karen National Union delegate General Mutu Sae Phoe said KNU played no
dirty game in the peace process.

The next meeting for groundbreaking nationwide ceasefire deal is
scheduled to be held in Hpa-an of Kayin State in December.
