India records 31.2% on-year rise in VoA issuance in Oct 2013

The Indian government issued a total of 1,911 visas last month under its Visa on Arrival (VoA) scheme, registering a 31.2 per cent growth as compared with the same month last year. The number of VoAs issued during October 2013 for nationals of the eleven countries covered in the scheme were 436 for Japan, 435 for New Zealand, 409 for the Philippines, 249 for Singapore, 220 for Indonesia, 97 for Finland, 27 for Myanmar, 24 for Vietnam, eight for Luxembourg, five for Cambodia, and one for Laos, a release stated.

A growth of 28.5 per cent was recorded in the number VoAs issued in the first eight months of this year, as compared with the same period in 2012. Of the total of 15,770 VoAs issued in the said period this year, Japan received 5,304 visas; New Zealand, 2,925; the Philippines, 2,289; Indonesia, 2,156; Singapore, 1,806; Finland, 790; Vietnam, 166; Luxembourg, 117; Myanmar, 113; Cambodia, 89; and Laos, 15.

During January to October 2013, the highest number of VoAs were issued at New Delhi Airport (8,829), followed by Mumbai (3,286), Chennai (2,210), Kolkata (1,099), Bengaluru (174), Kochi (75), Hyderabad (68) and Thiruvananthapuram (29).
