NAYPYITAW , Myanmar (Dec 3): Although medals for the floorball event will not be taken into account at the 27th SEA Games in Myanmar, the national male floorball squad is still optimistic about emerging as champions in the demonstration event.
This is the first time floorball which is like ice hockey is being introduced at the SEA Games level and it will be contested at the SEA Games in Singapore in two years.
The squad's coach, Rizal Razman said the confidence was based on the achievement of the squad prior to this.
The squad's biggest success was garnering third place at the Asia Pacific Floorball Championships in Singapore in 2006.
"Most teams taking part in the SEA Games are still new to the sport except Singapore which have more that 15 years experience while we have 10 years of experience," he told Bernama today.
In another development, Rizal said the squad encountered difficulties in registering to enter the sports village on Dec 30 because it did not have an acreditation card and had to wait for six hours before the matter was finally resolved.
