More than 80 percent of Myanmar's health care spending are funded
directly by the patients, according to deputy health minister Dr Than
Aung.
The deputy minister referenced the Myanmar National Health Care
Spending Statistics (1998-2011) to highlight how far the Southeast
Asian country need to expand its spending in health.
"We are measuring coverage of universal health care with indicators,"
said the deputy minister.
He also said Myanmar's health care standards have wide gaps with
international standards, according to the local newspaper The
Messenger report.
Around 30-40 percent of health care spending are funded directly by
the patients in the international standards, according to the report.
The Ministry of Health has drafted the Universal Health Care Project
(draft) with the period from 2014-2015 FY to 2020-2021 FY.
The deputy minister also said that the Ministry of Finance and Revenue
is preparing the health insurance packages.
